Hokkaido Day 6

View Road Trip in a larger map

Since the beginning of the trip Ruu and Futoshi had been talking several times a day and she often sent him pictures from her cell phone. Since Ruu left and even we didn't know where we were going we sent him pictures of the mushi hat (that he had given us) in different locals and he had to try to guess where we were.

On Shiretoko peninsula there were deer absolutely everywhere and they had no fear!

Re-packing the car. After Ruu left we took to simply chucking things in the backseat.

We headed off to hike the five lakes and bath in the hot spring waterfalls but since the hiking season had yet to start very little was open.

The barrier that blocked the way to the hot spring waterfalls. I attempted to drive around it but the ditch was too steep. mushi#3
So we did the only hike available to us.

Didn't you know I am a mermaid? mushi #6
We had planned on spending a while with the hiking but since we were unable we ventured to the east coast to see if we could see Russia. Driving through the middle of the park the mountains were still covered with snow. They were much different than the mountains at Daisetzu park more barren and stately.

We found a small walk-in onsen along the way and decided why not!

Naomi finally got her view of Russia!

We drove from snowy mountains to barren sea coast to lush farm land. This farmer wants to ensure everyone knows he farms cows! 牛= cow.

Flip flops in snow. It was really that warm!
Stopped off at another national park to view volcanic crater lakes.

Made our way down south to a nice free campground that we had all to ourselves!
